ROK - Frontman of Sadistik Exekution

Where have you been for the past 7-8 years?
I will give several different answers to this question. Firstly I or we as Sad X have been in HELL. I or we have also been in SHIT. I or we have also been in Dubbo Tip. As well as that, who the fukk cares where we have been. It matters not ….
What made you say yes to playing at the Aus Metal Awards?
We agreed to getting up on the stage at the Metal Awards because we had one hundred percent trust in the person who asked us to do it in the first place. We also felt that the time was right to do it again. Everyone assumes that we stopped playing shows years ago. Well that’s not really true. For those who may remember our live shows, you would recall that we never played much at all to begin with. We existed for a few years before we did our first gig and there were plenty of long gaps between our shows back in the 90s anyway. So really, there has simply been a much longer gap between shows this time around.
You did a solo project called Rok, what happened with this and why didn’t you continue?
Well that’s exactly what it was, a solo project. Sadistik has always been the main thing, although Sloth, Slave and Hades have all created other forms of “entertainment” and released albums or have played live shows. Rok was my thing and its over now. The other idiots are more into their solo things so they can do what they like, but I won’t be continuing with solo stuff. Not at this point anyway.
Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Black Sabbath has heavily influenced each one of us. As have many other older metal bands. Personally, Venom, Hellhammer and Bathory are some of my other influences. As for non musical influences, world war two rates very highly, as does the old space shuttle disaster, along with volcanoes, heavy earth moving equipment, freight trains that move very slowly, rocket engines, storms and of course earthquakes.
We are also very influenced by old Aussie TV shows like Matlock Police, Division 4, Homicide, the Paul Hogan show and the Curiosity show. Movies like Bad Boy Bubby and Chopper may have also had some influence on us.
What type of band is Sadistik Exekution?
TOTAL FUKKING SHIT that’s what we are.
Tell us the brief history of your band, how did you all meet etc.
Dave Slave and I met at an Iron Maiden concert in 1984 and that’s where it all began. There we a few minor line up changes right at the start, but really the first line up was myself, Slave, Sloth and Sandy. Well before the time had come for our first show, Sandy was replaced by Rev Kriss Hades from Melbourne.
Who writes the songs, what are they about?
Dave Slave is the main man behind that side of things, although Kriss Hades has also created a lot of material. Sloth and myself have had far less musical input, but we have written most of the lyrics.
What are they about, well anything at all, but who really cares anyway, ya can’t even hear most of the stupid words. Its all just screaming and yelling anyway.
Describe your show, visual and musically.
Just crap. Put it this way, there’s no way I would be stupid enough to waste money to watch a bunch of idiots like us on stage.
What inspires you to do what you do?
Us. We are the ones who inspire each other. Nothing else.
What's the best and worst thing about playing gigs?
There is no best thing. It’s all bad, its all total shit. We hate it.
You toured with Sadistik Exekution in Europe in 1996, do you have any stories to tell from that tour?
Well put it this way. We were very close to being chucked out off the tour bus and sent on our way back home by the time we reached Italy, but somehow they let us stay on to do the three remaining shows. Make up your own minds from that …
Musically, what has been your biggest challenge?
The whole bloody thing is a challenge. It was a challenge in the first place to find a drummer and guitarist that could play the stuff we wanted to do. Let me hear a band out there that could do an accurate cover of our song Korpse on the Grave or Eternal Klock or Lupercalia. They may be able to play something similar, but I doubt anyone could do it.
Will there be any future Sadistik Exekution gigs?
Let me tell anyone out there who even slightly thinks that they have a chance of getting Sadistik Exekution to perform live, they can well and truly get stuffed. NO FUKKING WAY
What's your opinion of the Australian metal scene?
Well I have no opinion of the current Aussie metal scene, because I’m not out there amongst it to see exactly what’s happening. I do know that from what I’ve heard when judging for the metal awards that there certainly are some good bands here in Australia.
However, if I could wind back the clock to the year 1988 I think that was about the best period.
Any last words?
Get stuffed.
